Innate Gives Back
At Innate, we believe that everyone has a story to be told. It is our honor that we get to tell the story of our clients so as to leave an impression in the stories of their own clients. For the third year in a row, Innate became part of a very special story. We spent the morning volunteering with the Interfaith, community-based organization So Others Might Eat, or S.O.M.E.
S.O.M.E meets the immediate daily needs of the homeless and in-need District of Columbia community members with urgencies of food, clothing, and healthcare. They help combat homelessness by offering affordable housing, job training, addiction services and counseling. An example of their work: in 2015 they served over 300,000 meals, provided clothing and showers for over 23,000 individuals, instructed almost 200 adults with intensive job training, and offered affordable housing for 150 families with 338 children. We were thankful to spend time with them.
Half of the Innate team spent the morning organizing Christmas shoebox gifts that will be handed out to those in need. These gifts, donated by the community, include toiletries such as shampoo, soap, body lotion, and also ladies hygiene products, undergarments, and cold weather gear including scarves and hats, plus toys for the children. The other half of the team lended a hand in the food pantry. S.O.M.E’s food pantry stocks all necessities to run their food program, which serves hot breakfast and lunch each day of the year in the dining room. They also provide meals to those involved in their residential programs.
S.O.M.E is always in need of volunteers or donations, check out their Ways to Give page to donate what you can. Whether you live in DC or beyond, try to give back this season. We all have a story to tell, what role will you play in the one of others?
